Behind every Floaties kid, is a great Floaties instructor

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! August has definitely been a hot reminder that the summer weather is still here! And we’ve just been having a splash of a time with all your kids. Summer season is a busy one and I’d like to dedicate this month’s blog to our instructors. In today’s discussion I’ll break down how we train all of our staff and what makes our training system so successful.

Every employee that becomes a part of the Floaties family goes through the same in-depth training. Experienced or not, front desk staff or instructor, we are all trained in the pool so that every employee has a complete understanding of our learn-to-swim program and what makes ‘the Floaties way’ so successful.

Being a swim instructor, like many other jobs, is a very niche profession. Spending hours in the pool on a daily basis takes a lot of energy both mentally and physically, especially while having children in your care. With that being said, I can assure you that the instructors you see with your kids, want to be there with them. Our instructors are passionate about what they do and the kids are the best part of our day.

Now, although I say this job is very niche, we take pride in hiring both experienced and new instructors. Our training program is comprehensively structured to have every instructor follow the same progression line, ensuring that every child is taught the same skills, in the same order, no matter who they swim with.

You may have seen new faces with your child’s instructor during their class from time to time. This is a very important and crucial part of our program. From day one, we get our trainees in the pool, hands-on, working with the trainers and their kids. It’s a great ice breaker to see how they are in the water, with the kids, with the families, the unexpected excitement that can occur, etc. We want to see it all and help guide them every step of the way.

Our training process is spread out over the course of several weeks and involves not only hands-on interaction, but also reading and written material to help retain information from all angles. Throughout their training journey they spend their shifts with different trainers to get a better feel of different teaching styles, different kids and different scenarios.

At the very end of training, a written exam is given to see how much material they’ve absorbed and if further practice is needed before they receive their schedule. We make sure that each instructor is confident and prepared before their first class begins. Assuring a safe and fun lesson for everyone!

I hope this has provided great insight into how our instructors prepare to teach and how important it is to us that everyone involved gets the best experience possible. Behind every Floaties kid, is a great Floaties instructor. Thank you so much for reading and I hope to see you all back here in October for our discussion on Kids with Special Needs and Why We Have an Inclusive Program.
